Koto Support
Updated 21 September 2026
Need help, found a bug, or have feedback about Koto? Email [email protected].
Koto is in beta. Features and availability may vary between builds, and online services may occasionally be unavailable or reach their beta usage limits.
Koto does not currently offer a live paid subscription. Any price, trial, or allowance shown in an internal design preview is not an active offer and cannot charge you.
The core Koto flow
- Ask: type a phrase, a message you want to send, or a question about meaning and context.
- Understand: review Koto's explanation, alternatives, tone, and relevant uncertainty before using the wording.
- Save: keep a useful expression with the meaning and context you want to remember.
- Revisit: review saved language when Koto brings it back. Your response changes when it returns; there is no streak to protect.
Before reporting a problem
Check that you have the latest Koto build offered to you in TestFlight. Keep the app installed while troubleshooting: deleting and reinstalling it can remove saved expressions, notes, chats, and progress. Updating is different from uninstalling, but no recovery of deleted local data is promised.
A reply will not load
If Koto asks for online-processing permission, review Settings → Online processing. Allow it only if you want the disclosed AI and cloud-voice processing. You can leave it off and continue local learning; repeatedly pressing Retry does not replace consent.
Check your Wi-Fi or mobile-data connection, then use Retry if Koto displays it. If the app says you need access, sign-in, or that a usage limit has been reached, follow that message; repeatedly retrying will not remove the restriction.
Live AI replies require an internet connection and an enabled backend. Demo responses do not confirm that the live service is connected. If the problem continues, send us the exact error and approximate time, including your time zone.
Listen has no sound, or the voice sounds different
- Raise your iPhone's media volume while playback is active.
- Check whether sound is going to Bluetooth headphones, AirPlay, or another output instead of the iPhone speaker.
- If using cloud playback, check your connection. Try a short expression and, where available, compare Natural and Slow.
- Tell us whether silent mode was on, which output device you used, and whether you tapped Listen, a Practice playback control, or Talk with Koto.
Playback is intended to work with silent mode on. If it does not, please report it as a bug; turning off silent mode should not be a permanent workaround. If Koto identifies a device-voice fallback, it may sound different from Google Chirp 3 HD. Hearing a voice by itself does not confirm cloud playback is active.
Speaking or practice does not recognize me
Check Koto's microphone and speech-recognition permissions in iOS Settings. Speak a short sentence in a quiet place, and check your internet connection: Apple's recognition service may need it. If recognition is unavailable, you can still type and view your existing saved content.
Tell us whether the problem happens before recording, while transcribing, or when waiting for Koto's reply. You do not need to send a recording of yourself.
What works offline?
You can revisit content already stored on your device, including saved expressions, notes, existing chats, and local learning progress. Live AI replies and new Google Chirp audio require connectivity. Device pronunciation may be available depending on your build and installed voices; it is not the same as an offline library of Google voices.
Koto does not currently provide general cloud synchronization or a server backup of your local library. Do not uninstall the app to resolve a missing-item issue. First check that you are viewing your personal content rather than the separate demo experience, then contact support if items are still missing.
A translation or roleplay does not feel right
Tell us what you wanted to express, who you were speaking to, and the tone you intended. If comfortable, include the original question and the part of Koto's answer that felt wrong. Remove real names or sensitive details first.
AI can make mistakes. Check important messages before sending them to another person, especially when tone, affection, politeness, or factual accuracy matters.

Privacy and deletion
To stop new AI and cloud-voice requests on this device, use Settings → Online processing → Withdraw permission. In enabled account-based builds, confirm account withdrawal there to prevent later online dispatch across devices. If Koto cannot confirm the account change, the device stays off and you should reconnect to check the account status. Permission withdrawal is different from deleting server-held information.
When you are signed in to an account-enabled build, request deletion through Settings → Online account → Delete online account. Your device library remains on that device. Do not assume deletion finished while offline or while Koto shows a pending status; use Check deletion status until the server confirms completion. If deletion access has expired or the account control is unavailable, contact support.
Read the Koto Privacy Policy for what stays on your device and what online features send to service providers, and the Koto Terms for the service rules. For privacy questions or requests about server-held information, email [email protected].
Deleting a saved item or removing the app is not the same as deleting server-held information. If you are unsure what to remove, contact us before deleting the app.
